Former Superintendent Bill Mayo Now At Home With The Lord

Edited excerpt of remarks by Bishop Dayton Birt, Redemption Ministries Conference:

Reverend Bill Mayo, Sr. passed from this life to the next, Wednesday, June 24 at 12:12 p.m., at his home in Elizabeth City, NC. His battle with cancer finally came to an end when he was promoted to heaven and received his ultimate healing. Reverend William Allen Mayo, Sr. was born to William Lee Mayo, Jr. and Margaret Allen Mayo on March 3, 1945 in Jacksonville, North Carolina. His father, William Lee, his brother, Tom, and granddaughter, Naomi Grace, preceded him in death. He is survived by his mother, Margaret Mayo; his wife of 41 years, Sylvia Julian Mayo; three children and their spouses, Allen Mayo and wife, Debbie; Scott Mayo and wife, Robin; Krista Mayo Overman and husband, Chet; and six grandchildren, Hayli, Zachary, Heidi, Julianne, Nathan and Kaylyn; a brother, Dr. David Mayo and wife, Loretta; and four nieces and two nephews. He was an ordained minister of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church, serving in the pastorate for 26 years and 14 years in conference leadership. His love for God, his amazing knowledge of the Word and his astounding wisdom has left us a great legacy. He will be missed, not only by his family, but also by all those who knew him.

Pastor Mayo was saved and sanctified at the Glenrock PHC, February 1967, and was filled with the Holy Spirit in 1973. He received his Minister's License in 1976, in Portsmouth, VA. with the Eastern Virginia Conference and was ordained in 1979 in the Mid-Atlantic Conference. Reverend Mayo served as pastor of four churches, including: Appomattox PHC, Appomattox, VA (1976-1978); National PHC (now Church of Living Waters), Oxon Hill, MD (1978-1983); New Life PHC, Chesapeake, VA (1990-1994); and Fountain of Life PHC, Elizabeth City, NC (1994-2009). Pastor Mayo also served as Conference Superintendent of the Mid-Atlantic Conference (1983-1990), and as Conference Evangelism Director for the Eastern Virginia (now Redemption Ministries) Conference (1999-2006), as well as serving on numerous boards and committees for the denomination. The International Pentecostal Holiness Church, both its ministers and members, are deeply indebted to the life and legacy of the Reverend Bill Mayo, Sr. The funeral was held at Fountain of Life Church in Elizabeth City, NC 27907 on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. The graveside service was held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Norfolk, VA.

In the words of Pastor Mayo, in his last statement to the congregation, "Paul told us to we are to fight the good fight of faith and we don't always know what valley that battle may take us to, but we know that our Commander-in-Chief never leaves us nor forsakes us and He will see us through." The Mayo family and congregation of Fountain of Life Church, wish to express appreciation to everyone for their outpouring of love and prayers during this challenging journey of faith. You may send cards to the Mayo residence at 125 Spence
